Throughout the last year, painting has been my way to express stress and emotions during the Pandemic. As more and more people get vaccinated, we hope that we will be able to engage more socially and travel to see friends and family in the future.
I love the beauty of flowers and blossoming trees and am getting inspired to start some new paintings. Please follow me on FaceBook as I will post newly completed paintings there first.

I have been bad about updating the website. Life is busy and I would rather paint than post.
I was approached to paint a beloved cat as a birthday gift. Painting animals has not been my forte and I had some anxiety because I wanted the painting to be special for them. Studying how to paint a cat’s fur and select the colors to give it texture was interesting. This stretched my comfort zone and I was happily surprised how much I enjoyed creating “Stumpy”. I look forward to painting the next one.

I was asked by a good friend to design and paint shoes for her wedding reception. She wanted shoes she could dance in and be comforatble but that would be special. What an honor!
She bought the shoes (Toms) she wanted and shared pictures of the flowers she planned for her wedding bouquet. We discussed her favorite colors and likes, etc. I sketched the flowers and design and she was happy with it.
Before I felt comfortable starting these very special shoes, I thought practicing on some other shoes would be a very good idea. I purchased quality fabric paints and ink markers, read about painting shoes and then designed and painted several pair of tennis shoes. Rave reviews!
the wedding shoes are finished and the bride to be is happy. I love this new art form and thank Kara for getting me started painting shoes!
Last Fall I decided to open an Etsy Shop.
There a hundreds if not thousands of very talented artisans and designers who have shops. I love to scroll through all of the different items and select my favorites. I assumed I would get lost among the many shops and never sell anything from it.
A couple of weeks ago, I had a message through my shop from an interested buyer in Indiana who liked Bunny and Birches. This has always been one of my favorites. I really had fun creating the bunny. It was great to sell this painting from the shop!
I need to get busy and paint more bunnies as have had several requests for more bunny paintings. It is almost April so that makes sense. We are all ready for warm weather and springtime.
I had the honor of gifting a painting to very special friends and family yesterday. What a special thing it is to have extended family who are such dear friends. I wanted to give this workshop painting to them because as it took shape, it reminded me so much of the scenery that surrounds the lodge they have in upstate NY.
It is hard to describe the feelings of deep fulfillment when something you create is appreciated and loved by another. It could be a painting, song, clothing, food or anything else hand made. When I paint, I always listen to music and often think of the song by Wilco, "What Light" when I put myself out there and share a painting.

I was very excited to see Wendy Daniels at work last week! She was in our volunteer office. As I walked in the office , Kim was showing her a picture of my newest birch tree painting. I am almost done with this commissioned piece and will be adding it soon to the website. We talked about my art and as always she was very supportive. You may recall she is one of the volunteer artists mentioned in the 'About' page who helped inspire me to start painting. She is a wonderful instructor and amazing watercolor artist. Check out her classes at Montgomery College, Montgomery County, Maryland.
I think one of the hardest things to do is to put a price on something you create. I have been asked this so many times and have pulled a number out of the air or even asked what the customer had in mind... not good. So, I read articles and sought advice from a number of people on the best way to do this and discovered this is a common question.
As such, putting prices on the paintings in inventory includes a formula and some 'this just seems right to me' knowing the time involved in creating each piece.

After taking my class at a local community center, I was so disillusioned. The teacher was an abstract artist and I wanted my paintings to look like what I saw. I began to work on the initial painting and through trial and error, finished it. My friend Julie was so supportive. She now owns my first painting titled 'The Russian Tyrant's Scarf'.
After spending multiple weekends designing this webpage and trying to link to my domain name, I hopefully am finished. Business cards came and look great.
